Gt Dunham CC is a full member of the Croquet Association and the East Anglia Croquet Federation
Great Dunham Croquet Club is a new private club situated in the village of Great Dunham near Swaffham, Norfolk.
There is one full sized lawn which was created in 2017. The site was a rough old paddock with a hedge curving across the area, weedy old flower beds and some small trees. These were all dug out by JCB leaving a very bumpy surface.
This has been transformed single handedly on a very small budget into a full sized lawn complete with club house. Although it was playable for league matches in 2019, it was far from level. So, in September 2019 the lawn was laser levelled and 85 tonnes of fairy rings removed at the same time. See the pictures here.
EACF Northern League 2nd place
Great Dunham CC has entered the East Anglian Croquet League in 2019. This is played between Peterborough, Norwich Wensum, Norwich Yare and Great Dunham.
Our team comprised Charles Ostler, Terrey Sparks, Gordon Mills and Duncan Hector. Great Dunham came 2nd, just one point behind the winners Norwich Yare.
With our new flat lawn, hopefully 2020 will see a better result.
Great Dunham Croquet Club is the venue for the Wissey U3A Croquet Groups. In 2019 we had some 24 players mostly beginners.
In 2020 the main U3A activity will be Golf Croquet but coaching will also be available in Association Croquet.
The University of the 3rd Age is a huge voluntary organsation with 1039 branches and over 425,000 members in the UK. The Wissey U3A has around 350 members and there are 32 activity groups. You can find out more using the link below.
