Gabrielle is a very experienced Association Croquet player with many UK titles to her name. Her parents live in Great Dunham and Gabrielle is a member of our club. L to R Downham Team - Brian Saddington, Ian, Jonathan Toye Gt Dunham Team - Duncan Hector, Roland Bergan, Terrey Sparks
East Anglian AC Handicap League July 22nd 2022 Great Dunham beat Downham 3-1. In the morning Terrey played Ian and had a comfortable lead. After pegging out one ball he couldn't peg the second ball out. Despite several attempts Ian gradually caught up and eventually rover and pegged out, thus winning the game. Duncan and Roland played Jonathan and Brian in the doubles which went to time and, after extra turns was still a draw so became "sudden death". Duncan had an easy shot at penult but managed to stick in the hoop with Jonathan's ball a few feet away and thought he had thrown the game. But Jonathan's shot clanged off the wire giving Duncan an easy hoop to win. At lunch the score drawn at 1 - 1 but Great Dunham prevailed in the afternoon to seal a 3 - 1 victory.
Colin Spencer wins at York Report by John Harris at York Colin Spencer of Great Dunham Croquet Club (and Downham CC) stormed to victory in the Heart of Yorkshire Tournament on 11-12 June by winning all six of his games. The York lawns were nicely fast, the fine weather held, no fewer than five players gained Merit Awards, and home-made cake rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. Runner-up was nineteen-year-old Wendy Robertson of York CC, another up-and-coming player to watch.
Soham Indoor Speed Croquet (AC) Sunday 16th January 2022 Report from Duncan Hector Speed croquet is a doubles event played using large chess clocks. Each side starts with 25 minutes on the clock and each player has to run 6 hoops and peg out. Time is crucial because when your time runs out you only get single ball shots, no croquet shots.
